What is Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is for people who have desire to know God and want to get closer to Him. These are the people who want to be grateful for what they have received from God. Unfortunately, many of them don’t know where to start. The Spiritual Director allows the person to grow with the guidance from the Holy Spirit. There are three people involved in Spiritual Direction: The Holy Spirit, The Directee and The Director.
God will never change. Isn’t this such good news? Human condition, in recent times has been badly wounded. Family life has lost its Biblical basis. A high percentage of Americans are bordering depression. Most influential cause for this condition, in my opinion is, lack of faith in God. The lack of faith in His love. This disbelief in God has sneaked into all walks of life, even Christianity. Our interior lives have been shaken.
Spiritual direction helps one to get in touch with God who dwells in us and in doing so get in touch with ourselves, with the ultimate meaning of our lives, with our very identity and the truth that defines our existence. Spiritual Direction is the best way to reach deep inside our lives where God dwells.
Pope John Paul II wrote in Christifidelis Laici, “To be able to discover the actual will of the Lord in our lives always involves the following: a receptive listening to the Word of God and the Church, fervent and constant prayer, recourse to a wise and loving spiritual guide, and a faithful discernment of the gifts and talents given by God.”
